Citymapper’s new Smart Commute makes your journey to work a little less painful

Citymapper’s new Smart Commute makes your journey to work a little less painful

Citymapper, the much-loved urban journey-planning app, has just rolled out a new feature on iOS and Android that should make that painful daily commute on public transit a little less… painful.

Smart Commute currently works best on Android, where a live-updating lockscreen notification will pop up each day as you start your journey to work. It gives you a live ETA, departure times, and information about disruptions, delays and the weather. You can get some of this info pushed to your Android Wear watch, too.

Pop the app open on both Android and iOS and you’ll get all of the above on the first tab in the app, plus the ability to customize your route and have all of the relevant information change in real-time.

This is a useful addition to an already invaluable app. I find Citymapper to be a better way of navigating the city than rivals like Google Maps’ public transit directions.

Earlier this week I used Citymapper to get me to a location I’d never visited before. I tried to outsmart it and ended up missing a train I’d have caught if I’d trusted the app. Lesson learned.
