Chrome Web Store Launches At Google I/0

Google has launched an app store for Chrome called “Chrome Web Store” at Google I/O. When a user installs an app, the app icon shows up in the “new tab” screen in Chrome along with the current thumbnails view of most visited sites.

The store exists right in Chrome and developers can list and sell their free and paid apps right in the store. So basically this is the first browser-specific app store (of course, there are plugin directories) and this could be even more significant when it will be integrated into Chrome OS when that comes out in a final build. Tweetdeck, Flickr and others were demoed and HTML5 is of course the preferred language.

The most impressive part of the demo during the keynote was showing how integrated games can be from the Web Store into Chrome. Google showed a Lego Star Wars game that looked really slick in Chrome. Also, Sports Illustrated has built a native app for the store.
