Chevrolet to offer unlimited in-car data for $20 per month

In-car Wi-Fi is rapidly rapidly being seen not as a luxury, but rather as an essential feature of a new car. And why shouldn’t it? From navigation, to merely keeping your kids entertained, it can make long journeys that bit more bearable.

Perhaps recognizing this, US car manufacturer Chevrolet has announced it’s launching an LTE data plan for its US customers, offering unlimited data for the bargain-basement price of $20.

The offering is in conjunction with OnStar, and will see vehicles fitted with a compatible Wi-Fi network. The devices are available across the entire range of Chevy cars and trucks, and can connect up to seven devices at a time.

According to Chevrolet, in-car Wi-Fi is a growth market, that has soared by 200 percent in tjust the last year alone.

This ultra-affordable deal will apply to cars sold in the US after March 3. There’s no word on when, or if, this will come to Europe.

But not all hope is lost. Ford has announced a deal with multinational carrier Vodafone that will see it offer 4G in-car hotspots on the continent from 2018. Pricing and availability details are yet to be confirmed, however.
