You can now tag other users inside Tumblr posts

At last, it’s now possible to mention other Tumblr users in your posts. Similar to Twitter or Facebook, it’s just a matter of using the “@” symbol, followed by their username. Tumblr will auto-suggest a list of users as you type, which should speed up the time it takes to hit post.

If you’ve been tagged in another user’s post, you’ll see a notification in-stream on the dashboard and via the Activity page, which is accessible from the navigation menu on the right-hand side of the page.

While user mentions isn’t the most innovative feature, it’s long overdue and one that should make it easier for Tumblr’s user base to communicate with one another and give credit where it’s due. Tumblr has been operated as a self-contained social network for some time now – the dashboard is essentially a timeline similar to Twitter or Facebook – so people-tagging is a logical next step.
