You can finally watch Netflix while doing other stuff on your iPad

You can finally watch Netflix while doing other stuff on your iPad

You can now watch Netflix videos while using other apps on your iPad. It’s about time.

iOS has been able to play picture-in-picture (PiP) since the release of iOS 9 last year, but Netflix is finally catching up to others (Hulu, for instance, has been able to use PiP since September).

Simply open up a video on Netflix, tap the PiP button, then go ahead and open whatever other app you feel like using. It’s useful if you like doing work while having something playing in the background, or want to look up a quick fact without interrupting your binge-session.

That leaves one other big holdout: YouTube. Hopefully that’s just a matter of time; YouTube supports a PiP mode within the app, such as when browsing videos, but not when you exit the app.

You can download the updated Netflix app from the App Store now. Keep in mind you’ll need to be running iOS 9.3.2 or newer, and it won’t work with iPhones.
