News just in that Twitter is to announce a round of funding equal from as many as seven investors.
This confirms our report from last week stating that Twitter were due another round of funding, valuing the company at $1 billion. However, at $100 Million, the actual round is twice what we had been expecting.
According to the WSJ, the investor group includes mutual fund giant T. Rowe Price and private-equity firm Insight Venture Partners, both new investors to Twitter. They join venture-capital firms Spark Capital and Institutional Venture Partners, both of whom have previously invested in the service.
The Twitter valuation is a substantial raise from the company’s last round of investing earlier this year, in which investors valued the company at approximately $255 million.
Twitter has raised approximately $55 million to date, with a round in March totaling $35 million, valuing the company at $250 million.
