    Charities are increasingly using self-published books as a way of raising awareness and funds for their causes. With this in mind, publishing platform Blurb is launching Blurb for Good, a service aimed at “Citizen Philanthopists” and non- profit organisations.

    Blurb For Good (which will go live at www.blurbforgood.com today) essentially combines a JustGiving-style donation platform with the usual Blurb publishing tools. Authors can set up a unique page in the Blurb Bookstore to help promote their cause. Blurb will feature their books in a dedicated section of the Bookstore reserved for cause-related publications.

    In addition to receiving funds from booksales, authors can apply to receive a contribution from Blurb for every book sold. This currently only applies to books raising money for registered non-profit organizations in the United States, Canada and the UK.

    Targeting charities and ‘social good’ causes should be a good move for London and San Francisco-based Blurb. They claim that last year, despite the economic downturn, 92% of non-profit organizations saw an increase in the number of gifts received due to online promotion of fundraising for their causes.
