BlackBerry shipped more old-generation smartphones than BlackBerry 10 devices in Q1 2013

BlackBerry shipped more old-generation smartphones than BlackBerry 10 devices in Q1 2013

BlackBerry has revealed more details of its disappointing Q1 2014 financial results, including the fact that it shipped a mere 2.7 million BlackBerry 10 devices during the three-month period, as N4bb reports.

The firm already confirmed that its total smartphone shipments for the period were 6.8 million units. Those figures together mean that the struggling Canadian company actually shipped 4.1 million ‘old’ generation BlackBerry devices, which is pretty surprising given the push that it has made with BlackBerry 10.

The company announced it had shipped 1 million BlackBerry 10 devices during its previous quarter – Q4 2013 – and 2.7X growth across a three-month period is hardly the kind of metric that suggests the platform has been well received.

This nugget of information is not going to do wonders for its share price, which has dropped by 20 percent since the abysmal financial results were revealed.
