BlackBerry PlayBook gets official UK launch date and pricing

Those of you that have been waiting for RIM to bring its BlackBerry PlayBook to UK shores will have little less than a month to wait after both Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy, official stockists of the device, announced both the launch date and pricing of the enterprise-ready device.

The retailers have put live their pre-order pages for the PlayBook, offering the tablet device from a starting price of £399 for the 16GB model, £479 for the 32GB model and the 64GB model coming in at £559. Shipments are expected to reach customers from June 16.

If you’ve kept an eye on the price of Apple’s iPad 2, you will recognise that RIM has priced its tablet device to match that of its rival for each of its models, something that a number of Android tablet manufacturers have not either been able or been inclined to do.

With RIM working to update the QNX operating system on the PlayBook, it is not known whether the UK models will ship with an upgraded firmware which will include official email support and additional features.
