BlackBerry fans in the UK can now pre-order its Priv Android handset, shipping next month

If you’ve been looking forward to finally getting your hands on BlackBerry’s first Android-based handset and you’re based in the UK, you can now pre-order the device and it will arrive at your door next month.

UK retailer Carphone Warehouse is offering the slider device on tariffs of £31.99 or more across a range of different networks. At that cost, you’ll need to still put in money up-front though; if you want a ‘free’ handset, you’ll need to commit to at least £49 per month or more, and again, deals vary by network.

Key specs include an 18-megapixel camera, hardware and software keyboards, a pairing of 1.8GHz dual core + 1.44GHz quad core 808 processor and a 3,410mAh battery. The company also says it has “extraordinary audio quality.”

Of course, there’s more to a device than hardware alone, and how well the Priv performs could have wide-reaching implications for the future of the company. CEO John Chen says that if the decision to swap to Android doesn’t put the hardware company back into the black next year, he’ll have to reconsider its long-term future.

Delivery for pre-orders is currently listed to begin on November 6.
