BlackBerry Dakota Photo and Specifications Outed [Updated]

BlackBerry Dakota Photo and Specifications Outed [Updated]

It seems the Dakota wasn’t just the only device leaked today, updates at foot of the post.

The guys over at BoyGeniusReport have gotten their hands on what looks to be RIM’s next flagship smartphone called the BlackBerry Dakota, a touch-QWERTY device that looks set to utilise the very best in smartphone technology.

Both a high-resolution image and specifications were forthcoming, leading us to believe this wasn’t so much of a leak but a controlled and clever piece of marketing by the Canadian smartphone manufacturer, so soon after CES.

The Dakota borrows its design from the Bold range of BlackBerry devices but seems supercharged and a lot more feature rich in comparison.

Let’s get down to the details.

The Dakota is said to be a Quad-band device with Tri-band UMTS, rocking a 5MP camera with HD video, 4GB of internal storage, 768MB of RAM and a 2.8-inch 640 x 480 screen. The device will be able to function as a 3G mobile hotspot, it will feature NFC, a magnetometer, accelerometer, a proximity sensor and will launch with BlackBerry OS 6.1.

It certainly looks like RIM is finally bringing a smartphone that can hold its own against the iPhone and the millions of Android devices, about time too.

Updated: BGR has decided to roll out the leaked information on new BlackBerry handsets one at a time. Also revealed today was the new BlackBerry Curve, again in a photo, complete with specifications:

The specifications are as follows:

Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, Tri-band UMTS/HSPA 7.2Mbps, Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi B/G/N, GPS, NFC, 512MB of eMMC, 512MB of RAM, 5MP camera, HVGA 480×360 display, 1050mAh battery, Tavor MG-1 800MHz CPU, BlackBerry OS 6.1, 11mm thin.

Stayed tuned, there could be more.
