As expected, BlackBerry today released a new version of BBM, adding stickers, support for sending larger files, and photo sharing in multi-person chats. If you don’t see it yet, you should note the company says the update “will begin to roll out to users starting this afternoon.”
Stickers is probably the biggest addition, as it lets users download a variety of packs right inside the app from the BBM Shop and it gives BlackBerry a new way to monetize its messaging platform. Each sticker pack contains between 20 and 25 stickers and features content developed by “talented artists,” relating to a theme or a character, and from popular brands. Sticker packs are either free or cost $1.99, and are billed through the device’s app store.

In addition to stickers, BBM users can now send files up to 16MB in a chat (an increase of 10MB) as well as share photos in multi-person chats. Photos will be delivered in the chat as a thumbnail that can be opened to reveal the image in full size.
Here’s the app’s official changelog:
- Add some more fun to your BBM chats with the introduction of stickers available in the new BBM Shop.
- Send larger files (up to 16MB on BlackBerry 10, Android and iPhone) so you can share higher quality photos, longer videos and bigger attachments.
- Share pictures in multi-person chats making it easy to send a pic several people and chat about it together.
To make sure you get this update, here are the latest version numbers to look out for: BBM 10.3.1 for BlackBerry 10, BBM 8.2 for BlackBerry OS, BBM 2.1 for Android and iOS.
