BBC plans a new streaming subscription service in the US

BBC plans a new streaming subscription service in the US

The BBC has announced plans to launch a new online subscription service right here in the good ol’ USA. Come next year, US residents will be able to stream programs from across the pond on demand, with access to programming currently unavailable here, according to BBC Director General Tony Hall.

Details of the plan are vague. Neither a name nor prospective content for the new OTT service have been revealed. The 92-year-old company already serves 97 percent of the British public with a variety of programming options.

If you dig the King’s English, there are already ways to view such programs via an existing BBC America channel, included in some pay TV packages, or by catching shows that stream on Netflix and Hulu.
