Baked goods company Entenmann’s has faced backlash from Twitter users after it used the #notguilty hashtag to promote its products.
The #notguilty hashtag is a trending topic on Twitter at the moment, with users adopting it in relation to discussion around the not guilty verdict in the Casey Anthony trial.
Entenmann’s social media firm, Likeable, hadn’t checked the meaning behind the hashtag before moving to capitalize on it, in an action Twitter users have deemed “insensitive.”
Entenmann’s has since removed the tweet and apologized, but it goes to show why thoroughness over speed is of utmost importance in all public relations arenas — especially online.
