AVOS will close Web curation service Zeen on December 8 to focus on its Mixbit video remix app

AVOS, the company run by YouTube founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen, is shutting down Zeen, the Web curation service that it launched in July 2012, in order to focus its efforts on Mixbit, its new video remix app.

Zeen will shut down on December 8, according to a post on the company blog. AVOS says it will contact users to provide instructions for saving their data soon.

Zeen is an interesting service for setting up Web-based personal magazines, but with Instagram, Vine and other services showing the potential of video, perhaps it is not a huge surprise to see AVOS prioritize Mixbit — which launched to the public in August after teasers earlier this year.
