Stephen Fry’s favorite social sound platform Audioboo has announced a new round of investment that will see AudioGO‘s library of BBC audiobooks rolled out on it from next month.

A week after we reported that RadioPlayer was partnering with Audioboo to offer UK radio stations ‘listen again’ functionality, Audioboo has now announced what it calls a “new strategic investment round and partnership” that will see more money come in from existing investors. This is in addition to a new partnership that will see AudioGO  – one of the UK’s top audiobook publishers – invest in Audioboo and make its content available.

The AudioGO BBC audiobook archive includes BBC radio programmes, audio versions of classic shows such as Blackadder, Yes Prime Minister and Doctor Who, as well as a number of radio plays including the BBC’s Radio Shakespeare performances.

AudioGO will join Audioboo’s existing investors, including Imagination Tech plc, and the closing of this round will allow Audioboo to finalise work on Audioboo 2.0 – which is a major platform upgrade, expected to be revealed later this year.

“Integrating audiobook content onto our platform has been an exciting move for us, and this latest deal represents a fantastic new opportunity for the Audioboo community,” says Mark Rock, Founder and CEO at Audioboo. “AudioGO has a huge archive of quality audiobooks, which will now be available to sample and buy directly from the dedicated channel on Audioboo.”

The AudioGO library will be rolled out in February, and it means Audioboo users can listen to sample chapters and extracts before choosing to purchase and download the whole audiobook via Audioboo.
