ASUS, the Taiwan-based PC and tablet manufacturer, confirmed today that it will cease manufacturing Windows RT tablets.
According to the Wall Street Journal, ASUS Chief Executive Jerry Shen stated that Windows RT’s lack of backward compatibility with Intel chips as one of the reasons why the OEM could no longer support Microsoft’s operating system.
However, it’s likely that Windows RT’s lackluster sales also played a role in the decision, as Shen apparently told WSJ “It’s not only our opinion, the industry sentiment is also that Windows RT has not been successful.”
