Imgur’s collaborative April Fools’ joke blindly matches your GIFs to other users’ captions

Imgur’s April Fools’ day joke is kind of amazing; it’s called Imgur Collaborative and allows users to create either a title, description or image for a post and be matched with a fellow user’s creations.

The catch is that the titler/image uploader/description writer doesn’t know what they’re going to be combined with at all, so it’s a total lucky dip and the results are terrifying/hilarious/confusing/awful/great.

I chose to be the image uploader and dropped in a great GIF I’d made from this “don’t copy that floppy” YouTube video. Once uploaded, you’ll need to wait a few seconds to be matched with the perfect title and description.

The result? This.

You can see some of the other random collaborations that resulted on Imgur’s new collaborative page. They’re random and they’re sometimes beautiful.

The company is also currently running a “Imgur plays Imgur” stream where the chat drives a computer that’s browsing the site, which is a joke relating to Twitch Plays Pokemon.
