Appsfire, the company behind the powerful app recommendation service of the same name, has been busy churning out a new version of its popular iPhone application, a brand new Android app and has announced its first dedicated apps conference/seminar for for the people that actually create them.
The company has a history of innovating via its service. By eliminating the barrier of importing the specific apps you used into the service, it immediately set about making recommendations more social, incorporating Facebook Connect into its app and website casting the app recommendation net even wider by incorporating suggestions from friends.
Appsfire for iPhone
The new Appsfire iPhone app removes some of the manual inputting associated with searching, instead incorporating visual streams of apps which suggest apps from the most popular themes. Borrowing heavily from Appstream for iPad (which became the second top free app globally), the app brings with it impressive features but on a smaller screen, including:
- Geo Discovery – This feature allows users to find apps relevant to the country they live in, not just the most popular apps.
- Sharing via QR Code: A feature normally associated with Android devices, iPhone users can share apps with a simple QR code.
Appsfire co-founder Ouriel Ohayon notes that a new version of the app will be available by the end of November, which will include a number of new and innovative features.

Appsfire for Android
The brand new Appsfire for Android app has a little extra functionality than its iPhone counterpart, thanks largely to the less restrictive nature of the operating system. Once installed, Appsfire can run as a widget, meaning you don’t need to open the application to search for apps, instead you can search much the same way as you would on Google, right from your homescreen.
The app completes searches relatively quickly, also offering recommendations on specific tastes or location. The app provides personal app statistics and app management, allowing the user to take advantage of one-click uninstall, launch apps from the comfort of Appsfire, view every single installed app at at once and also perform tasks like app backups to external SD cards.
Sharing app sharing functionality with its iPhone counterpart, Appsfire also provides a VIP section to discover apps used by prominent tech personalities. Launching as Appsfire v.1, development of version 1.5 is already underway.

App Stories Seminar
Commencing on November 22 in Paris, Appsfire, along with iPhon.fr and TechCrunch France, will be hosting App Stories, an apps seminar featuring speakers and developers from Gameloft, VLC, Fotopedia and Microsoft. The idea behind the event is to bring successful developers to one place, allow them to explain the ideas and workings of their own apps, demystifying smartphone app stores and their associated complexities.
