Update: Apple changed its service status page at approximately 16:30 GMT, around six and a half hours after the problem began, to say it is now fixed.
Apple’s App Store – y’know, the center of your digital universe – is inaccessible for many users around the world, according to reports on social media.
Apple’s service status page reports a problem, though in our testing, the only problem we’re seeing is the inability to Search. Results are not appearing for many and some users report that searching leads to the wrong apps.
App Store – All users are affected
Users are experiencing a problem with the App Store. We are investigating and will update the status as more information becomes available.
However, our UK team isn’t affected, and DownDetector’s outage map confirms that the problems seem mostly contained to mainland Europe and the US.
Twitter also contains very few reports of issues today from users, which leads to the odd situation where Apple says there’s a problem affecting its entire user base, but no one seems all that bothered.
It’s probably not a major problem, unless of course you’re launching your new app today, in which case the timing couldn’t be worse.
We’ll update you when the issue is resolved.
