This health insurance company wants to pay for your Apple Watch

This health insurance company wants to pay for your Apple Watch

Aetna isn’t your regular health insurance firm. Starting this fall, the company plans to introduce a new initiative that will see select companies and individuals get the Apple Watch at huge discounts.

As part of the new offer, Aetna is also working on launching its own suite of health-tracking apps for the Watch later in 2017. The apps will not only provide customers with easy access to medical professionals, but also help them responsibly manage prescriptions and medicine intake.

Currently, the health insurance company is still working with employers to develop and establish affordable subsidy programs for the Apple Watch.

While the company does not specify how sizeable the discounts might be, a spokesperson for Aetna claims employers should be able to offer the device to employees “at low or no cost.”

Although it’s not yet clear whether the iPhone-maker will help the health insurer subsidize the Watch, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook showed enthusiasm for the new program:

Aetna’s new initiatives will be a powerful force toward creating better customer experiences in health care, and we look forward to working with Aetna to make them successful.

The health insurance company has already announced its own 50,000 strong employee base will be among the the first ones to receive free Apple Watches. At present, Aetna has over 23 million subscribers in the US alone.
