Apple has announced an updated iMac, featuring “fourth generation Intel quad-core processors, new graphics, next generation Wi-Fi and faster PCIe flash storage options”.
The entry-level 21.5-inch incarnation now sports a 2.7 GHz (Turbo Boost up to 3.2 GHz) quad-core Intel Core i5 processor, in addition to new Iris Pro graphics. Moreover, the higher-end 21.5-inch model, as well as both 27-inch models, feature quad-core Intel Core i5 processors that operate up to 3.4 GHz. They also feature NVIDIA GeForce 700 series graphics.
The iMacs also now support 802.11ac WiFi, which is basically a supercharged version of the current 802.11n WiFi standard. Apple claims that when connected to an 802.11ac base station, iMacs will be able to deliver up to three times faster wireless Internet.
In terms of availability and pricing, the new iMac will go on sale today through Apple’s online store, as well as in its bricks-and-mortar stores and authorized third-party resellers.

The entry-level 21.5 inch 2.7 GHz iMac has a suggested retail price of $1,299, though with a 2.9 GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 and Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.6 GHz and NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M, this will be $1,499.
The 27-inch iMac is available with a 3.2 GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.6 GHz and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 755M, and comes in at $1,799, though this bumps up to $1,999 with a 3.4 GHz quad-core Intel Core i5, with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.8 GHz and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 775M.
The updated iMac range also now feature support for PCIe-based flash storage, which basically means faster data-transfer on compatible flash storage devices – this of course includes Apple’s own Fusion Drive.
