None of Apple’s executives expressly referenced it in today’s WWDC 2012 keynote but Apple has unveiled a new iPad accessory called the iPad Smart Case, a new variant of its iPad Smart Cover that provides more protection for your tablet device.

The case costs $49, can be personalized with free laser engraving and is available to buy now.

Apple says that the iPad Smart Case covers your iPad front to back and “still retains the thin, light design of iPad.” It folds into similar positions as its older counterpart, making it easy to read, type and view media on your Apple tablet, automatically waking and sleeping when it is opened and closed.

Fashioned from polyurethane, Apple offers six different colours, all of which it describes as “bright.”

They include: Light Gray, Dark Gray, Blue, Green, Pink and Red — the latter of which is in association with (Product) RED. It’s available on for the iPad 2 (2nd generation) and the new iPad (3rd generation).
