Apple Pay is going global. In today’s earnings call, CEO Tim Cook announced Apple would partner with American Express to move mobile payments beyond the US and UK.
Initially, Apple Pay will find its way to Canada and Australia. After that, we can expect Apple Pay to hit Hong Kong, Spain and Singapore.
It’s still not clear how many iPhone and/or Apple Watch owners actually use Apple Pay. Apple doesn’t disclose those numbers, unfortunately.
This is a great time to open Apple Pay up, too. With Android Pay quickly finding its way to the world and Samsung Pay working on just about every card reader there is, mobile payments are about to get competitive.
