The wait is almost over to find out what Apple has planned for its next-generation iPhone, after the company officially confirmed it will hold its next media event – where we expect the company to unveil two new devices – on October 4 at the company’s Cupertino HQ.
According to Jim Dalrymple from The Loop, Apple began sending out invites for the October event in the past few minutes:
Apple on Tuesday officially announced its iPhone 5 launch event. According to the invitation received by The Loop, the event will be held on October 4 at Apple’s Cupertino, Calif. campus. The event will begin at 10:00 am PT.
I will be at the event, and will bring you a live update of the announcements as they happen.
On September 21 AllThingsD, citing “sources close to the situation”, said that Apple had selected the date to showcase the iPhone 5, with the company expected to announce that its new smartphone(s) would be available “within a few weeks” after the announcement.
The event will likely see Apple’s new CEO Tim Cook take to the stage to deliver his first Apple keynote since Steve Jobs announced his resignation from the position. Sources close to Apple’s suppliers suggest that the new iPhone will feature the company’s latest A5 processor, a new teardrop design and will also sport an 8MP camera.
Whatever the announcement will be, it will obviously be iPhone focused. The icons are obviously related to the date, time, place and subject of the event. The tagline, Let’s talk iPhone, could be a straightforward statement about the subject of the event, or it could be related to the voice assistant features rumored for iOS 5.
There is also the fact that the badge on the phone icon is a singular ‘1’. Does this confirm that there will just be one phone?
We’ll see on October 4th, stay tuned to The Next Web as we bring you all of the news.
