Apple launches Logic Pro X and Main Stage 3 for pro musicians, plus new iPad app Logic Remote

Apple has today launched Logic Pro X, a replacement for the ageing but well-respected Logic 9 audio production software.

New features include Drummer, essentially a ‘virtual drummer’ to automatically play along with your compositions in a range of styles. This should be useful for those who lack the skill to manually program convincing drum patterns and don’t want to use sampled loops. Meanwhile, Flex Pitch offers pitch editing for audio recordings.

Also new is Logic Remote, a companion iPad app that allows musicians to control Logic Pro X away from their main computer.

Logic Pro X also comes with a bunch of new software instruments and effects and costs $199.99. The live performance app Main Stage ($29.99), which offers performance-focused tools and effects, has been updated to version 3, with a refreshed UI and compatibility with Logic Pro’s new features. Both will be available today in the Mac App Store, while Logic Remote will be available for free in the iOS App Store.

The apps haven’t quite seeded into their respective app stores at the time of writing but keep checking for their arrival. (UPDATE: We’ve added the links for Logic Pro X and Main Stage 3 below and will add Logic Remote when it arrives).
