Apple is now has the third biggest chunk of market share in the US PC market, MacRumors reports.

Research firms Gartner and IDC released personal computer data for the quarter today that puts Apple up from fifth place last quarter to third this quarter with a 10.7% share.

The company is only beaten by HP with 26.9% and Dell with 22.6%. It was only years ago when tech pundits doubted the company would ever be relevant again (as the less informed continue to do today).

In the same period, worldwide markets grew by only 2.5% while Apple grew 14.7% year-over-year. The company has continued to steal ground while the PC industry shrunk by 4.2% and many of the big players, such as Acer and Toshiba, lost considerable market share.
