Apple dismisses heated iPad reports, also reminds you just what went into it

There’s been a lot of coverage over the fact that Apple’s new iPad generates around five degrees (Celsius) more heat than the older iPad 2, thanks largely to the added hardware embedded beneath its 10-inch screen.

With its new A5X processor, increased battery capacity, LTE support and of course its stunning Retina Display, we weren’t surprised the tablet was kicking out a little more heat, especially when it packs nearly twice the number of LEDs just to light the display.

Sensing that stories of a hotter iPad could somehow be used to paint the new tablet in a bad light (we saw many outlets link back to a TNW story on the first-generation iPad from 2010 to use as evidence their own stories), Apple has clarified matters with a short statement that suggests it is a complete non-issue:

“The new iPad delivers a stunning Retina display, A5X chip, support for 4G LTE plus 10 hours of battery life, all while operating well within our thermal specifications. If customers have any concerns they should contact AppleCare.”

Hopefully, that will be the end of it.
