It’s been a while since we’ve heard complaints about Apple’s App Store review process. Gathering input from peers and on Twitter, it appears that the time taken to review an app these days is about 2 weeks. So it’s surprising when we come across an exception.
TrapCall is a paid web service from Teltech Systems that lets you unmask blocked or private phone calls, record incoming calls, transcript voicemails etc. which has been around for quite some time now. It recently announced the availability of its free iPhone app that brings these features to the iPhone.
Announcing the suite of mobile apps on its blog, TrapCall says that Apple approved the app after a whopping 201 days. The service claims that it is the only app of its kind to offer this feature.
The way the app works is, whenever you get an incoming call that’s private or blocked, just double-click the sleep/wake button to decline the call so it’s sent to TrapCall for unmasking. This call is then, within seconds, unmasked and sent back to your phone. It can even send you the name and address associated with that number via SMS or Push Notification.
The service offers other interesting features well such as blocking phone numbers, playing a recorded message for blacklisted numbers and even get timely alerts about missed calls. The iPhone app is available for free on the App Store, though I’m unsure how long it’s going to remain available. The service is currently US-only and supports AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint.
