Application marketplace Appbistro has announced that it will be ceasing operations on February 1, 2013. In an email to its users today, the company said that following the acquisition of its parent company MMTG Labs by mobile ad network InMobi this summer, it was decided to “sunset Appbistro’s services.”
Started in 2010, MMTG Labs launched Appbistro first at TechCrunch Disrupt. In the beginning of 2012, it launched another service called AppGalleries. It raised $600,000 from i/o Ventures, Sand Hill Angeles, 500 Startups, Alfred Lin, Erik Moore, and many other angel investors. Over the next couple of months, users will begin to see support for the service’s applications ending, but if there questions relating to the apps, users can contact the company until the end of the year for assistance.
Based on the email Appbistro sent, it is the only service being shuttered. AppGalleries.com does not appear to be affected and has even been integrated with InMobi’s suite of products.
MMTG Labs was a company founded by the team of Nalin Mittal and Ryan Merket, who previously worked at Facebook and the co-founder of Ping.fm, which was acquired by Seesmic. In July 2012, InMobi acquired the parent company, and both Appbistro and AppGalleries as well, for an undisclosed sum. Both the founders and the rest of the five-person team now work at InMobi.
Page Admins and Developers,
As many of you know, Appbistro’s parent company has been acquired by InMobi, the largest independent mobile advertising network. In lieu of this acquisition, we have decided to sunset Appbistro’s services, and effective February 1, 2013 Appbistro.com will no longer be live.
Over the next month, we will be discontinuing support to our applications. We will, however, continue to respond to emails and inquiries you may have until the end of the year. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns you may have with regards to the discontinuation of our services.
We’ve enjoyed working with all of you, and we are sad to say goodbye to Appbistro. However, we are all very excited about the integration of Appbistro’s sister product, AppGalleries, with InMobi’s suite of products for publishers and developers. If you would like to learn more about what we’re doing, visit AppGalleries.com or InMobi.com.
Thank you so much for the past couple years! Good luck in all your endeavors and keep shining!
The Appbistro Team
