Angry Birds Star Wars will hit all major gaming consoles in October with new multiplayer modes and exclusive levels

Angry Birds Star Wars will hit all major gaming consoles in October with new multiplayer modes and exclusive levels

Just a few days after revealing Angry Birds Star Wars II, Rovio has confirmed that its predecessor will be launching on pretty much every video game console known to man later this year.

Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii and Wii U, as well as PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS owners will be able to catapult Luke Skywalker and other classic Star Wars characters – albeit in bird form – through similarly themed levels based on the original film trilogy.

Retail copies will be available in the United States on October 29, before a global release on November 1.

Rovio says this “remastered” edition will include all-new competitive and cooperative multiplayer modes, as well as 20 new levels created exclusively for the console iteration. For die-hard Angry Birds fans, this is therefore the definitive collector’s edition.

The announcement trailer shows the same gameplay tropes as the original Angry Birds Star Wars app released on iOS and Android, with appropriate lightsaber power-ups and space-oriented levels.

Angry Birds Star Wars II, meanwhile, will land on September 19 for mobile devices, alongside a number of collectible figures that can be ‘scanned’ for additional in-game content.

It’s essentially the Skylanders model, bundling what would be updates and DLC packs with a brightly colored toy. Rovio will be selling over 30 of these figures, called TELEPODS figures, at launch in the hope of expanding its potential revenue streams.
