Amazon signs licensing deal with PBS to boost catalog to 12,000 Instant Video titles

Amazon has today announced another licensing agreement with US television network PBS, seeing its current and archived programming made available to Amazon Prime subscribers to stream via the company’s Instant Video service.

The announcement sees the Internet retailer expand the number of instant videos to 12,000 by the end of 2011, adding 1,000 PBS programmes to meaning that its catalog of videos has doubled since it launched Prime Instant Videos in February.

It also means that Kindle Fire owners will have even more programming to browse when the 7-inch Android tablet launches in November, with tablet buyers receiving a free one month subscription to the service when they activate the device.

Amazon recently added 11,000 Fox TV shows and movies to its Instant Video service, a service that is already delivering over 150 million streams of programming across the web and mobile apps each month.
