Amazon plans to open a data center for Amazon Web Services in Australia early next year, The Australian reports.
The company is still looking for the perfect site, and reportedly has three on its list so far, and is looking for the site with the best energy efficiency ratings. The data center will be in Sydney.
The only data center for AWS in the region is in Singapore, making latency an issue. Some businesses are concerned about the legal implications of hosting data outside of Australia.
And though plenty of Australian web companies such as SitePoint and Envato are already on board, Amazon hopes that more of these business will be willing to take advantage of their cloud services after the data center is built.
