We knew that Amazon was working to launch its own Kindle Lending Library service but today the internet retailer has taken the wraps off its book borrowing service that will see Kindle users be able to check-out and read Kindle books from over 11,000 libraries in the United States.
In April, we reported that Amazon was keen on creating its own book borrowing service, having seen a number of unofficial solutions such as LendInk and the Kindle Lending Club form to offer the same type of service.
With the launch of its library book-lending scheme, Kindle users can visit their local library’s website, look up the book they wish to borrow and then choose a “Send To Kindle” link, which will deliver the book to their reading device.
All books will be Whispersync-enabled, allowing for the automatic syncronisation of their margin notes, highlights, bookmarks, page numbers, Twitter and Facebook integration. With other library lenders sharing their thoughts on borrowed books, Amazon will hope to connect users and make book-reading far more interactive.
All you need to get started is an Amazon account, you don’t need to own a physical Kindle – click here for more information.
