Already popular in the US and rolling out in the UK, France and Germany in the middle of September, Amazon has expanded the availability of its Cloud Drive service, making it available to users in Italy and Spain.
Customers immediately receive 5GB of free storage, providing them with the ability to upload their files, photos and videos into the cloud, which can then be accessed on their via its Kindle Fire or by using the company’s Mac and PC apps.
Similar to Dropbox, Amazon offers paid upgrades for its Cloud Drive service, starting at £6 or €8 ($10) for 20GB.
Amazon recently changed how its Cloud Player and Cloud Drive services operated, with each service offering separate subscriptions. Any music uploaded to Cloud Player or Cloud Drive before July 31st continues to remain available in both services but any new music is automatically stored in a user’s Cloud Player account. Users will also need to import files into Cloud Player to play their music.
Today’s launch ensures that Amazon’s cloud storage service is available in all territories where its Kindle Fire tablet range is available to purchase, complimenting its Android Appstore and other services that combine to offer dedicated media and file storage experiences on its tablets.
