Amazon introduces lnstant Video links to the IMDb iOS app

Amazon has made it easy for users of the IMDb iOS app to go from reading about a film to watching it, after it added Amazon Instant Video links to the app for the movie database that it bought in 2008.

An update introduces watchable links to all IMDb-listed movies that are among the 25,000 TV programs and films listed on Amazon Prime. That makes it easier than ever before for iPad and iPhone owners that have the Amazon Instant Video app to go from one app to the other.

IMDb is an Amazon subsidiary but it first launched in 1990, making it four years older than its parent. Already it has an ‘instant view’ feature that allows US-based visitors from PCs to watch content from CBS, Sony and others, but the latest addition to the app applies to mobile devices and Amazon’s own service. The result is likely to be a nice traffic boost and could trigger more subscribers to Amazon Prime.

Amazon Prime is the ecommerce giant’s premium subscription service. For a flat $79 annual fee, members enjoy a speedier 2-day delivery service, and other perks which include unlimited access to Amazon Instant Video at no additional cost.

Today’s update also includes another, more minor, addition to the IMDb app. Now the mobile service lists award information for the actors, actresses, movies and TV programs that are featured within it.
