Amazon to host an event for its ‘video business’ on April 2, could feature its TV streaming box

It seems Amazon is ready to break into the living room in a big way. The technology giant sent out invites today for an event in New York on April 2, which will cover “an update to our video business”. The invite shows a coach with a bucket of popcorn on the floor, but otherwise that’s it.

Rumors have been rife about an Amazon set-top box for some time and the latest reports point to a small streaming dongle similar to Google’s Chromecast. A video game console is also reportedly in the works – an earlier leak revealed what appears to be the controller – but it’s unclear at the moment whether these devices are one and the same.

Either way, it’s less than a week until we know what Amazon has up its sleeves. It will almost certainly push Amazon Instant Video and its Prime Instant Video streaming service, although the rest is largely a mystery.
