Amazon brings its Instant Video service to Apple’s iPhone and iPod touch

Amazon Instant’s video app has been available for iPads for a few months already, but now it’s also available for your small-screen iOS devices, namely the iPhone and iPod touch, with the latest version of the app.

Amazon Instant Video is a digital video streaming and download service that lets users rent, buy or subscribe to a range of video content, though it’s currently available in the US only.

Launched in April last year, Prime Instant Video is its video subscription service which makes tens of thousands of movies and TV shows available to stream. It’s free to those who subscribe to its 2-day shipping service Amazon Prime, charged at an annual rate.

With version 1.4 of the Amazon Instant Video app, you can now download movies and TV shows from your library, directly on your iPhone or iPod touch. This will see more than 30,000 titles from Prime Instant Video made available to Prime members, including TV shows such as American Horror Story, Downton Abbey and Fringe, as well as classic flicks such as Hugo, Thor and Goodfellas.

Amazon announced the Instant Video app for iPad back in August, so this latest launch will be welcome news for the millions of Apple fans who are yet to jump on the tablet bandwagon.

“Our customers tell us they want the convenience of being able to watch all of their movies and TV episodes, wherever they are,” says Anthony Bay, Amazon.com Vice President for Video. “Today we’re excited to extend our ‘buy once, enjoy everywhere’ approach to iPhone and iPod touch users, giving customers the chance to enjoy more than 140,000 titles from Amazon Instant Video and more than 30,000 titles from Prime Instant Video anytime, anywhere.”

The updated app is available to download now.
