Autodesk, maker of design, engineering and entertainment software, today announced that it has acquired enterprise social collaboration software platform Qontext from India-based business incubator Pramati Technologies.
Autodesk has made similar ‘social acquisitions’ in the past, snapping up mobile video startup Socialcam and DIY community Instructables.
By purchasing the Qontext technology and development team, Autodesk says it aims to ramp up the social capabilities of its Autodesk 360 cloud service.
This platform basically offers users – primarily engineers, designers and architects – the ability to store, search, and view design data.
Financial terms of the deal with Pramati were not disclosed.
Founded in 1998 by Jay and Vijay Pullur in Hyderabad, India, other Pramati-incubated companies include SocialTwist, a customer acquisition and retention platform, and Imaginea, a software product and services firm.
