Adobe announced the immediate availability of its new HTML5 Pack for Dreamweaver CS5 at Google’s I/O event today.
The add-on pack for Dreamweaver enhances the Web design application’s HTML5 support and includes the ability to preview what HTML5-based designs will look like across multiple devices.
According to a NY Times interview with Lea Hickman, a senior director of product management for the Creative Suite design and web tools at Adobe:
“It’s definitely part of a bigger strategy where we will be much more proactive in supporting HTML5 moving forward.”
Adding this kind of support to Dreamweaver will help designers create relatively rich animations, possibly for banner ads or graphic interfaces, without the need of Flash or other plug-in based Web tools.
Also, at the announcement, Adobe’s CTO Kevin Lynch announced a major move towards more open web video. Adobe will put VP8 inside Flash player and distribute to a billion people within a year making high-quality, open video format freely available to everyone.
