Adobe launches PhoneGap 3, plans support for Windows Phone 8, BlackBerry 10, Ubuntu and Firefox OS

Adobe has just launched PhoneGap 3 at its PhoneGap Day event in Portland. According to the release, PhoneGap 3 ships with “new plugin architecture, improved tools, new platforms, and new APIs.”

The development framework, which lets users create native apps for mobile operating systems like iOS, Android and Windows Phone 7 using HTML, CSS and JavaScript, has proved quite popular, despite controversy over whether or not PhoneGap generates quality native code.

Unfortunately, support for iOS 7 is not yet available, but it’s in the works now. Interestingly, support for Windows Phone 8, BlackBerry 10, Firefox OS and Ubuntu is “coming soon.”

Firefox OS in particular is a curious addition, because it is already built on HTML/CSS/JS. It’s unclear what PhoneGap would do for Firefox OS developers.
