Adobe launches Carousel service and apps to let you edit photos anywhere

We first heard about Adobe’s Carousel service when the company announced it in September and it is now available for you to download, according to a report by MacRumors.

For a brief refresher, here’s what Carousel does:

The app features a tuned version of Adobe’s Lightroom/Camera Raw engine to the iPad, iPhone and Mac. Some of the features are sounding very cool too.

  • You get access to all your images on all your devices.
  • All edits are non-destructive: tweak a setting on one device & you’ll see the edit ripple through your other devices.
  • It’s easy to collaborate with friends & family: people you invite to share a photo catalog can view photos, add new ones, apply adjustments and preset “looks,” and flag favorites.
  • You can easily publish to social networks like Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr.

You can grab the free universal iOS app from the App Store and the Mac app from the Mac App Store, but they aren’t any use without a subscription that costs $9.99 a month or $99 a year, with an introductory price of $5.99 a month or $59.99 a year, any of which can be purchased exclusively as in-app purchases through the iOS app. Fortunately, Adobe does give you a thirty-day free subscription to get you off the ground, so go ahead and give it a try.

If you are an Android or Windows user, Adobe wants you to know that it hasn’t forgotten about you. Versions of the app for both of those platforms are “coming soon”.
