Adobe is renaming its beleaguered Flash animation tool for 2016

In the wake of major backlash to its Flash interactive media format, Adobe is rebranding the authoring tool as Animate CC. The company will launch the latest version early next year.

As part of Adobe’s Creative Cloud suite of software, Animate will allow you to import and use photos, vector graphics and illustrations from the Adobe Stock library from within the desktop app. It’s also connected to the company’s mobile apps for creating and capturing visual assets and makes your collection easily accessible.

Animate will also let you export your creations to HTML5, WebGL, 4K video and SVG file formats. That’s good news for people who are used to Adobe’s class-leading software and want to shift away from Flash, which has been losing favor in browsers owing to poor performance and numerous security flaws.

Adobe says that Animate will be available from January, but if you want to get ahead of the crowd, the company is livestreaming demos all through this week on Twitch. You can find the schedule here.
