Drinking is super fun.
But it’s not just that. It’s also unhealthy, addictive and — depending on where you live — pretty expensive. However, because of its place in society as a widely-accepted, mainstream drug we’ve all become detached from the effects it has on our bodies.
I’m not going to be the first person to tell you any addiction is bad, but with this simple calculator it just became scarily easy to see the effects of alcohol, cigarettes or even heroin on your life expectancy.
For example, this is my current outlook having drunk around 1 alcoholic consumption per day since reaching legal drinking age in the Netherlands:

The data used for the calculator is aggregated by Treatment4Addiction, using data from U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other sources.
So yeah, it’s all real. That alcohol-free month I’ve been thinking about might not be a bad idea.
