Last night I attended a RIM developer panel in San Francisco, where RIM executives and developers discussed the release of the AppWorld 2.1 storefront; the key feature beings the development of in-app payments system for developers. This allows them to take payments within the application for their apps without having to re-route the user through a new billing process.
They also talked about WebWorks- The Blackberry web development platform which gives developers access to all of the Blackberry platform capabilities and APIs, but will developers want to develop on yet another platform and will the PlayBook be opening up to Android apps any time soon? Unfortunately BlackBerry wouldn’t comment.
