PC gaming is far from dead. The latest figures from Steam, the digital storefront and gaming platform run by Valve, the prolific developer behind titles such as Half-Life 2, Portal and Left for Dead, soared past 8 million concurrent users over the weekend.
To emphasize, that means over 8 million people – the same as Israel’s population – were logged in and using the service at the same time. The previous high recorded on Steam was 7.5 million concurrent users back in December.
In short, an awful lot of people are playing games on their Windows, Mac or Linux PC. The new milestone can be attributed in part to the Steam Summer Sale that ended yesterday. With plenty of deals to dig into, it’s a great time for players to catch-up on prior releases during the summer doldrums.
