BlackBerry OS update brings Android apps to older devices

BB 10

BlackBerry is rolling out an OS update that brings Android apps to its current line of devices through the Amazon Appstore.

BlackBerry OS 10.3.1 will arrive on the Z30, Z3, Z10, Q10, Q5, Passport, and Porsche Design P’9983 and P’9982 models.

It also adds BlackBerry Blend, which syncs your email, BlackBerry Messenger and SMS messages, media contacts and calendars across devices and desktops.

A further addition is BlackBerry Assistant, which responds to voice and typed commands to let you quickly handle tasks like search, sending emails and texts and updating your Facebook status.

Other tweaks include new power saving profiles, camera functions like HDR and panorama, and the return of customizable keyboard shortcuts for system actions and speed dial.

These features were first launched along with OS version 10.3 on the Passport last September. The update will begin rolling out to BlackBerry 10 devices (excluding the Classic, which already runs the latest version of the OS) over the air today.
