Sony has announced that all of its 2011 Xperia devices will be getting the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update by March of 2012.
The March date comes courtesy of Maurizio De Palma, Sony Ericsson Italy’s Head of Marketing, who announced the date on a Facebook posting, reports Xperia Blog. He said that all 2011 models would be getting the update. We had reported a couple of weeks ago that the Xperia devices would be getting the update, but now we have a date.
Since Sony Ericsson traditionally reveal new devices in March, this could mean that ICS would be coming on new hardware as well. For the record, the 2011 devices include the Arc, Play, Neo, Acro, Mini, Mini Pro, Ray, Neo V, Arc S, Pro and Active.
Sony’s Xperia devices have been running a modified version of Android since their launch. It’s a hybrid of the standard Android interface and Sony’s own custom-built apps and UI components. This may be why it will take until March of 2012 for us to see Android 4.0 on Xperia devices.
Pssst, hey you!
