Microsoft announces Xbox One Dev Mode to turn retail consoles into developer kits

Microsoft announces Xbox One Dev Mode to turn retail consoles into developer kits

During its developer-oriented Build 2016 conference today, Microsoft announced a big update for Xbox developers: they can now turn their regular consoles into developer kits.

That means that your Xbox One at home can now be used to help you build and preview apps made with the Universal Windows Platform – apps can run on your laptop and phone as well as your consoles.

It’s a simple process too – you can simply open a ‘Dev Home’ app on your console to enter the developer mode. Exit it, and you’re back on your regular console experience. This is great for testing, deploying, and debugging apps designed for the living room screen.

A preview for Dev Mode will be available beginning today.
