Windows Phone Mango to be released September 1st

Windows Phone Mango to be released September 1st

Microsoft will formally launch the Mango update to its Windows Phone mobile platform on September 1st, according to a new report.

TNW has not been able to independently confirm the date, but the original post claims “multiple trusted sources.” The date itself is not out of the question, and fits with previously rumored timelines.

The launch timing appears to have been selected to match up with IFA, one of the largest electronics shows in the world. There Microsoft can rally its partners and show off its new wares. Nokia, however, is not expected to release a Windows Phone until October.

All of this matters, but what is frantically still unclear is the roll out schedule for Mango to phones that are already in the wild. There are millions of them, and as Microsoft struggled with the distribution of the NoDo update, the market is leery of similar issues with Mango.

For now, TNW will try to confirm the date. We will cover the release of Mango extensively, so stay tuned, and we will keep you up to date.
